Many movie studios have used Super Bowl Sunday to promote their upcoming productions, although Lionsgate has decided to take it a step further by devoting an entire week to John Wick: Chapter 4, with a celebration he named Wick Week, which kicked off on Monday. For five days, advances, new information and data that will please fans of this universe will be announced. The first of these was the revelation that this quarter will be the longest in franchise history, lasting 2 hours and 49 minutes.

The announcement came after the big game ended with a 30-second preview highlighting Keanu Reeves’ impressive action scenes. It remains to be seen what other news will be released during the Wick week, although new trailers and posters may be released. The runtime announcement continues the franchise tradition of making every new production bigger and better than the last. The film will be released in theaters on March 24.
The first installment of John Wick was released in 2014 and lasted a mere 101 minutes, while John Wick: Chapter 2 of 2017 lasted 122 minutes and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum of 2019, it reached 131 minutes. Although each movie was shorter than the next, they also got bigger and bigger at the box office.

The original John Wick earned a modest $86 million worldwide on a modest budget of $20 million. The sequel grossed 171.5 million worldwide with an investment of 40 million. Finally, the third part raised even more than the previous ones, with 328.3 million worldwide and it only cost 75 million to make it. The upcoming sequel reportedly grossed $90 million, making it the franchise’s most expensive film to date. However, this number is still low by Hollywood movie standards.
The upcoming production will place John Wick at a crossroads to bring down the mysterious High Table to earn his freedom from his underground collective of assassins. Reeves will return alongside franchise regulars Ian McShane (Winston), Lance Reddick (Charon) and Laurence Fishburne (Bowery King). Other cast members also joining Chapter 4 include Asian action icon Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgard, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Scott Adkins, Natalia Tena, and Clancy Brown. Chad Stahelski is directing from a script by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch, based on characters created by Derek Kolstad.

It is currently filming in Las Vegas and will also star Joel Kinnaman.
It has also been confirmed that Reeves and McShane will return as John Wick and Winston in the upcoming spin off title Ballerina, starring Oscar-nominated Ana de Armas. The story follows a young woman who was raised from an early age to be an assassin, who seeks revenge against the hitmen who killed her family. Production began in November, although it’s not yet clear when the film will be released.
Chapter 4 will take place after the events of Parabellum which ended with Wick’s excommunication from the assassination organization known as The High Table. Wick is also presumed dead after being shot by Winston and the title hero falling from a building. Previous trailers have shown Wick still on the run and interacting with the show’s newest cast members, Bill Skarsgard there Donnie Yen but hopefully this exciting week of new announcements will also include a new detailed plot synopsis of the film.
They are also working on a TV series called The Continental which will be released later this year via Peacock (in Latin America it will be on Prime Video), which is set in the mysterious hotel chain that serves as a neutral ground for murderers and other underworld criminals. Mel Gibson stars in the series with Colin Woodell and Ayomide Adegun playing younger versions of Ian McShane’s Winston and Lance Reddick’s Charon.
What began as a simple film about a retired killer getting revenge on his dead dog not only reignited Reeves’ career, but also launched one of the most successful action franchises of all time. Following the critical and box office success of the 2014 original, John Wick: Chapter 2 there John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum they quickly followed in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Both were just as critically acclaimed as the original, but doubled their worldwide box office with each new film. It’s something very unheard of in the modern cinematic landscape, especially for a newer franchise like John Wick .
