Atomic Heart’s release date is right around the corner, as the FPS game inspired by the BioShock atmosphere and seemingly open world of Far Cry is coming to PC and PC Game Pass later this month. Anticipating this, the founder of developer Mundfish sat down for an interview, where he describes how he thinks the sci-fi shooter fits in with games like Doom and Wolfenstein.

After a recent gameplay trailer for Atomic Heart finally gave us our best look at the shooter yet, we have a much better idea of what the game is really about, and with this interview with Mundfish, we have a bit of a better idea of how Atomic Heart will actually play.

Mundfish described Atomic Heart in response to a question from Wccftech, who wanted to know if the upcoming sci-fi shooter was more like the frenetic combat of Doom and Wolfenstein, or the more immersive cityscape of BioShock.

“To be honest, I don’t think that’s an accurate comparison,” says Mundfish founder Robert Bagratuni of Atomic Heart as Doom and Wolfenstein. “Although our game has parallels with such great games as Doom, Wolfenstein and Bioshock, we wanted to make Atomic Heart feel unique and fresh.

“If a comparison is necessary, then our game, like Bioshock, surely contains a higher level of immersion, weapon combination possibilities and special abilities compared to others in the genre. However, at the end of the day , our game will leave players with completely new feelings and they will understand that Atomic Heart stands out with a combination of intriguing scenarios, ruthless battles and incredible segments with challenging puzzles,” Bagratuni told Wccftech.

Since Atomic Heart’s protagonist was also revealed recently, there’s a lot of information to ingest while waiting for the release. Steam and PC Game Pass on February 21.
