This Wednesday the first Nintendo Direct of the year took place and some of the video games coming to Nintendo Switch during the first half were announced, with some surprises arriving on the same day. There were two surprises, first the remake of Metroid Prime for Nintendo Switch then the arrival of emulators for Game Boy and Game Boy Advance to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service.
As of last Wednesday, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers have access to Game Boy games, while Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers can play six Game Boy Advance video games. Nintendo has been adding new Nintendo 64 video games to its service every month for the past year, but the company isn’t committing to doing the same for Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games.
Axios Gaming’s Stephen Totilo asked Nintendo representatives yesterday if we can expect new Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games every month on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, to which he replied that “There is no fixed schedule for new releases, but each collection will continue to grow.”. This way, the company avoids committing to releasing a new Game Boy and Game Boy Advance title every month.
The Game Boy and Game Boy Advance libraries are very extensive and Nintendo could certainly release a game a month and even more, but we’ll have to wait and see how often they plan to add new titles to their service. For now, Nintendo has stopped releasing titles for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64, so hopefully from today it will focus on handheld consoles.
At the moment it is confirmed that the following games of game boy Later come to the Nintendo Switch Online service The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, Pokémon Trading Card Game and Kirby Tilt n’ Tumble.
Similarly, the following sets of GameBoy Advance Coming later to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service: Metroid Fusion, Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Fire Emblem, F-Zero Maximum Velocity, and Golden Sun.
