China adds 25 new positives of the virus, of which 15 are local infections

Shanghai (China), Feb 3 – The National Health Commission of China announced today the detection of 25 new positives of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus this Tuesday, of which 15 were produced by local contagion.
The latter cases were detected in the northeastern provinces of Jilin (8), Heilongjiang (6) and Hebei (1), scenes of several outbreaks in recent weeks.

As for the remaining 10 cases to reach the 25 total announced today, these were diagnosed in travelers from abroad in Shanghai (east, 4) and in the provinces of Canton (southeast, 2), Sichuan (center, 2), Jiangsu (east, 1) and Shaanxi (center, 1).
These 25 total infections represent a decrease in the trend, taking into account the 30 of the previous day and the 42 of the day before.
The data continues to worry authorities as China is already immersed in the lunar New Year travel season, although restrictions and fear of outbreaks have made many people choose not to move.

To avoid possible infections in that period, the Asian country continues to advance its vaccination campaign, which aims to immunize up to 50 million Chinese before the arrival of the Year of the Ox, on February 12.
In addition, the health authorities also reported today the detection of 12 new asymptomatic infections (7 of them, from abroad), although Beijing does not include them as confirmed cases unless they manifest symptoms.
The total of this type of infections under observation is 829, of which 279 are “imported”.

Likewise, the National Health Commission detailed that, until last local midnight (16:00 GMT on Tuesday), 91 patients were discharged after successfully overcoming covid-19 and another six came out of the serious state.
Thus, the total number of active infected in mainland China stood at 1,516, of which 66 are serious.
The institution pointed out that, since the beginning of the pandemic, 89,619 people have been infected in the country, among which 83,467 have managed to heal and 4,636 have died.

To date, 968,131 close contacts with infected people have been followed up, of which 36,360 continue to be observed.
Meanwhile, in the semi-autonomous city of Hong Kong – immersed in a fourth wave of infections for months – the authorities announced 25 new cases, bringing the total number of infected to 10,512 since the start of the pandemic, of the that 184 perished.
