The Dallas Cowboys are eyeing having quarterback Cooper Rush back as the starter to face the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles in a momentous NFC East matchup as Dak Prescott continues to recover from a broken thumb. right.
Head coach Mike McCarthy said Prescott planned to loosen his arm slightly at the end of a practice Wednesday after previously participating in injured-player practice.
The division lead will be on the line when the Cowboys (4-1) visit the Eagles (5-0) on Sunday night.
Rush has emerged victorious in four straight starts, including wins against the two Super Bowl teams, Cincinnati and the defending champion Los Angeles Rams.
Prescott broke the thumb on the hand he uses to throw during the loss to Tampa Bay on the first date.
McCarthy said he wants Prescott to have a full week of practice before playing him in a game and said Wednesday’s activity doesn’t count.
“I think we’re still in the medical recovery phase,” McCarthy said. “Once he’s out of that phase and activated without restriction, that’s when we can have our conversation.”
The Eagles could open a two-game lead over the reigning division champions with a win. Prescott is 7-3 in his career against Philadelphia.
It will be the first start against the Eagles for de Rush, who has won the first five starts of his career, dating back to a win at Minnesota last season.
